The resources you can go to includes state, local bar associations, lawyer referral services, friends you know who has hired a lawyer, or lawyers you know yourself. You can get help in identifying lawyers who specialize in your case from bar associations. You will also learn whether a lawyer has a clean record.
The next step before signing up the services of a lawyer is to understand all the legal costs associated with your client-and-lawyer relationship. Lawyers could bill on an hourly or contingency basis. If you agree on hourly rates, you commit to pay regardless of the outcome of your case. Add to that out-of-pocket fee. If you are paying on a contingency basis, it means you pay only when the case is won or settled out of court. The fee is usually a percentage of an award if the case is settled or goes to court.

You can prevent a case from going to court by entering into a settlement. It must also be mentioned, that the small claims court could be an option if the case is small enough that parties may opt not to hire a lawyer.
